Learn the basics of design (and blow people’s minds!)
Ages: 9-12 years old
The last time you played Minecraft, used a website on an iPad, or looked at a cereal box in the grocery store, have you ever wondered “who made all that stuff look so cool”?
Each and every one of those products were designed by someone who worked hard to make them look awesome. The study of graphic design is all about learning how to use images, colors, and letters (typography) to communicate a message or make something easier to use.
This workshop will teach you the basics of graphic design that you can apply to your own personal and school projects. If you ever wanted to try to make your own cover art, website, logo or sign, knowing about graphic design will not only make your creations more impressive to your friends and parents, but also make sure they are more easily understood by others.
We’re going to run through what design is all about and look at examples of design in action, and then you’re going to get to show off what you learn using just the basics – paper. Then we’ll run through how design works on computers and show you where you can go to learn more.
